Star Wars “Anniversary Edition” Combat (i.e. 1st Edition, unrevised.)

It was just another bar, it was just another ‘friendly’ game of Sabacc to get some much needed liquidity to finance there continued run from the Empire.
This was going pear shaped in a hurry. That old fool Jenden had put away a few too many rounds and started talking about the ‘good old days’, using his lightsaber for emphasis. Jenden couldn’t cut it when the Jedi could walk openly, let alone now when they were all but hunted to extinction.

Someone noticed.
Someone tipped off the Imperials as evidenced by the two troopers walking towards Jenden, as the bar patrons made for the exits… In a very practiced fashion.

On the plus side, Kehl’s ‘friends’ at the Sabbac table also ran out as fast as they could, leaving Kehl to scoop a few thousand extra credits off the table as he readies his blaster under the table.

“You are coming with us!” one of the troopers said to Jenden.

Jenden smiled.

Shit.

The old git certainly has alot of faith in his talents… Much more than was justified.

This was going to be a great moment for them, or it was going to be their last.

Declaration Phase

In Star Wars 1E, all parties declare what they are going to do. Multiple actions
are possible, with each additional action costing a -1D penalty to ALL skill rolls.
Certain actions (reactions) can be declared out of turn, such as dodges and parries,
also invoking a multi action penalty.
The turn is broken into segments: the first actions happen in the first segment, the
second actions in the second and so on.

For this Phase, Kehl is going to shoot the trooper that isn’t speaking with his blaster, and then he
is going to move to cover.

Jenden is going to attempt to stab the speaking trooper with his lightsaber.

The speaking trooper is going to attempt to strike Jenden with the butt of his rifle, as he does not
see the lightsaber, and only sees an old drunk.

The second trooper is going to call in to the local command to give the an update.

Turn 1 , Segment 1.
THERE IS NO INITIATIVE: All the involved parties roll their actions, and they go in order of success.

Kehl is going to shoot at the trooper. The trooper is about 5 meters away which is short range for
his blaster. He rolls his full skill 5D+2 versus a target number of 10. He gets an 18

Jenden is going to stab the trooper with his lightsaber. He already has it in his hand, just not
switched on. He can do that as it is moving… He rolls his full skill of 4D+2 versus a target number
of 20 (Melee weapons have a base difficulty… Lightsabers are really hard, and they have their
own skill.) He gets a 17.

The speaking trooper is trying to club Jenden with his rifle for being an annoying drunk.
He rolls 2D for his melee attack, based off of his Strength of 3D (it is reduced 1D because of his armor.)
He gets a 7 against a target number of 5.

The remaining trooper is talking to HQ, and that happens right away.

So the action order is:

1.Trooper makes his call
2.Kehl shoots the trooper, who won’t get a chance to dodge due to the surprise.
-The Blaster does 4D (16) damage versus the Stormtrooper’s 3D Strength (12)
(that is with the armor bonus)
- The damage is greater than the Strength roll (but not double), so the Trooper is
Wounded (suffers 1D penalty on all skill rolls) and also Stunned this round (May make
no skill rolls this round… This happens whenever you are hit, even if you soak the damage,
you are still momentarily winded.)
3. Jenden thrusts with his lightsaber, missing the trooper (who was also surprised)
4. The trooper will now most likely hit Jenden, but Jenden elects to Parry (-1D for this reaction).
He is going to roll against either his Melee Parry or his Sense score. The former will give him a
whopping 1d+2 , so he uses that, getting a 6. This is added to the base difficulty of the
Stormtroopers attack, changing the Sttormtrooper’s target number to an 11.

But wait, there’s more…

Since the Stormtrooper is using a non-lightsaber weapon that is being parried by a lightsaber,
any roll over the base target number (which would indicate that there was a hit), but under the
modified number from the parry (meaning the lightsaber parried it) means that his blaster rifle
is cut in half.

Putting this together:
Kehl fires under the table at one of the unsuspecting troopers, dropping him to the ground as he
completes his status report.

Jenden’s blade goes wide from his target, but he reverses the blade just in time to cleave through
the trooper’s crude attempt at smashing his head in with the butt of a rifle.
